Thrombosis Canada 2013 Annual Conference

Thrombosis Canada held another successful Annual Conference on November 2nd, at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto.  The conference was attended by 182 physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and allied health professionals from community and academic practice settings.  Attendees enjoyed a number of presentations focused on the “real world” use of novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) in venous and arterial thrombosis; speakers covered both the benefits of NOACs, and their harms and challenges. During lunch, the crowd was educated and entertained by a talk show hosted by Dr. Mike Sharma.  Drs. Andre Roussin, Anil Gupta and Alan Bell sparred over controversial topics in thrombosis, including the role of ASA in stroke prevention, the use of Coumadin in real life situations, and anticoagulation in the frail elderly.  The conference was capped off by an address from Dr. Graham Turpie, a trailblazer in thrombosis medicine and one of the founders of Thrombosis Canada.
